Red Dust Over Sydney

Red Dust Over Sydney
Posted by Lisa Smith

This isn't really design oriented but this is a picture of the dust storm in Sydney, Australia. Although as I said it is not design oriented, it does look like a work of art. The color of it reminds me of mars or possibly a really intense sunset.

Wicked, hands-free iPhone bicycle navigation system

Wicked, hands-free iPhone bicycle navigation system

Well here's something new...and possibly unsafe ha! But very cool nonetheless. It's an iPhone navigation system for Arider bicycle. You wear it on your helmet via a mount and it is connected to an eyepiece that shows you navigation graphics. As cool as this may sound it may be a little hazardous based on the fact that it is covering half your vision. Watch this video.

Sony' s New Motion Controlled Headphones

Sony's New Motion Conrolled Headphones

Finally headphones that pause your music when you pull them out of your ears...ingenious! This is a great idea but its obviously not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I must say it is a good idea that does solve a problem especially the example hipstomp uses in his post.

Give it a look.

Here is a new design made by Logitech...it's their portable lapdesk. It is a heat shielding laptop surface with a slide-out mouse pad. Its only $30 dollars which I feel is a very good price for this item. I'm surprised they haven't thought of an idea like this a while back.

Pininfarina doing Coke

Finally the new touch screen Coke Machine!!!! Although this is something that I could've done without, it still is very cool.  I think the coolest thing about is the fact that they carry over 100 different beverages, so it is quite the selection.  They're are currently being tested in a select few restaurants before being releasing next year.

Maarten Kolk and Guus Kuster's...

Maarten Kolk & Guus Kuster's Avifauna
Posted by Lisa Smith

This is an interesting idea.  Maarten Kolk and Guus Kuster have created a new type of decor from taxidermied animals stuffed without their plummage.  A Grey Heron, Tawny Owl and a Blackbird are just to name a few.  They're definitely different and innovative.  Very original idea, without a doubt.

My thoughts on "Defending Yourself Against Swine Flu Can Be Fun And Creative" by hipstomp

Core 77 - Click Here

Well this is certainly protecting yourself in style. This is apparently what the people in Mexico do when something of this seriousness comes about. Instead of panicking, they are cautious and are able to protect themselves from this probable pandemic and are also able to celebrate Halloween even in the Spring/Summer time. With that being said, it can be understood that they are making the best of a very serious situation. Hopefully this whole thing will blow over.

My thoughts on "Friction Saves The Medium" by Seth Godin

Seth's Blog - Click Here

I thought this was actually very interesting. Seth tells us that we can send 100 emails to friends and 100 times 100 is ten thousand. That then becomes spam. Therefore, because e-mail is free it is a dying medium now. Interesting isn't it?

Brunner goes Gaga for earbuds

Brunner goes Gaga for earbuds

First there were Beats, a pair of can-style headphones that Robert Brunner teamed up with Dr. Dre to make.
Now there are HeartBeats, designed by Brunner and Lady Gaga. They have been produced by Monster Cable and will be
available in three colors for about $100. I like the idea, but I don't feel they need to be that expensive.

Today's Apple media event: No tablet, but a Nanocam
Posted by hipstomp

Well its just been said that at Today's Apple event, Steve Jobs, a cofounder of Apple introduced the Nanocam, a built video camera that come with the new Ipod Nano.  I personally already thought that this product was out there already so in my opinion I'm not impressed.  I feel Apple has come out with some many different Ipods that they should put more time into making something new.

Video Tour of Special Effects...

Video Tour of Special Effects Since 1900
Posted by Allan Chochinov

This is a post on Core77 that I really found interesting, especially because I'm a film major.  It is pretty much a video of the evolution of special effects in media, specifically in film.  It's amazing how far we have come and how we thought that nothing could top some of the effects in the movie Jurassic Park, but then we look at a film like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and we see how Brad Pitt is able to be transformed into his younger self.  Each major film production keeps getting better and I feel we are going to witness many more extraordinary things.  Take a look at the video.

Map drawn of USA from memory...

Senator Al Franken can draw the USA from Memory
Posted by: Lisa Smith

Senator Al Franken draws the map of the USA completely from his own memory at the Minnesota State Fair.  It's very interesting how he starts from the middle of the map and works his way outward.  I find this very impressive and a prime example of how powerful the mind is.  Check out the video below.
